Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed is a distinguished Ghanaian politician, academic, and public servant currently serving as the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI). Born on 14th December 1974, he began his professional journey as a trained teacher, earning a Teacher’s Certificate A from Tamale College of Education. He later pursued higher education in Development Planning at KNUST and International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Ghana, eventually completing a PhD in Political Science. These academic milestones reflect his commitment to evidence-based policymaking and his belief in education as a tool for empowerment and national progress.
In the political arena, Hon. Muhammed is known for his resilience and depth of thought. He first served as Deputy National Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme in 2009 before being elected as Member of Parliament for Nanton in 2012. Though he lost his seat in 2016, he returned to Parliament in 2020 representing Tamale Central, and was re-elected in 2024. Throughout his parliamentary career, he has been a vocal advocate for good governance and development-focused legislation. Appointed as Minister for MESTI in February 2025, he now leads national efforts to advance environmental sustainability, foster scientific innovation, and harness technology for socioeconomic development. His leadership continues to reflect a deep sense of public duty and a vision for a more resilient and knowledge-driven Ghana.
