Director-General

Samuel Boakye Dampare is a distinguished geologist and scholar. He received the title of Professor of Nuclear Earth Sciences in January 2020 following his earlier attainment of Associate Professorship in February 2012 in the same field. He comes to the position of Director General of GAEC with over 25 years of work experience in diverse research and academic roles with nearly two decades of these years being at the GAEC, where he has worked and consulted for several organizations locally and internationally, including the African Union Commission (AUC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Samuel obtained a Ph.D. in Geology in 2008 at Okayama University, Okayama, Japan through a Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbukagakusho). In November 2008, he was further awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to conduct collaborative research at Okayama University, Japan under the supervision of Prof. Tsugio Shibata (Host Researcher). He has also been a recipient of several awards, amongst which is – the Dean of the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology Award for Academic Excellence, Okayama University. 2006; International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) award for Advanced Regional (AFRA) Training Course on “Isotope Data Interpretation”, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Argonne, Illinois, USA.  2002; Bank of Ghana Graduate Fellowship, University of Ghana (1998–1999); the University of Ghana Scholarship for Staff Development (1997–1998); and MacCallien Memorial Prize for Best Graduating Student in Geology, Geological Society of Ghana (1997). Prof. Dampare had his basic education at Maase Methodist School, proceeded to Ofori Panin Secondary School, Kukurantumi, for his lower and upper secondary education, and graduated from the University of Ghana, Legon with B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Phil. degrees in Geology in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
